The 10th SIP Reading Season raised its curtain on Apr 23, the World Book Day which, also known as World Book and Copyright Day, is celebrated annually on the day across the world to promote reading, publishing, and copyright. Books available at many places in SIP
“It is very convenient,” said Ms. Wu, a commuter, after she borrowed a magazine from the 24-hour smart library at SIP’s Xinghai Square Subway Station on her way to work one morning. It is learnt that a number of libraries of such kind are in service at different places in SIP. They offer audio books, e-publications and paper books through a self-service system that is easy to operate through a cellphone.
Bookcrossing makes the whole SIP a library
The bookcrossing event held at Suzhou Eslite Bookstore on Apr 23 received high acclaim from the participants. “It is a good idea. Bookcrossing helps save resources. People can share the same book they all want to read. It makes the whole SIP a library,” one of the participants said.
Kids take part in online reading competition
The neighborhood committee of SIP’s Donghu Dajun Community hosted an online kids’ reading competition on Apr 21. Twelve families participated. In the event, the committee offered the participating kids the video of a picture book entitled Hippos in a WeChat group, and gave the kids one hour to read the book and then tell their own stories based on what they had read.
